Ever heard of the phrase 'blessing in disguise'? Well, it's nothing less of that when COVID-19 came along last year and we were locked out of all the nice places we go to unwind, have fun and meet new people. It came along with pros and cons and today we ain't talking about them cons - today I chose to focus on the pros and everything good that came with it. And to be specific, I'm gonna talk about 'a blessing in disguise' - a person I met during that season and became part of me.
The year is 2020 around July/August. Jayden had earlier on in the month of March announced some containment measures which saw the clubs and restaurants closed for quite some time. This affected the entertainment industry and the people in it. Being the Kenyans we are and the innovative us, the entertainment crew came up with ideas of staying connected to their fans which was through live streaming on the social media platforms - main streaming platforms being Facebook and Instagram. I'm a lover and a fan of social media and being a party person as well, it saw me try run through some Facebook pages to try find something interesting to keep me entertained and connected with people. There were quite a number of pages streaming with live DJs and MCs. I came across this one page which was playing some Reggae music and had scheduled live streams within the week - my favorite was Sunday night live stream with 'aluta' :-) From this page I made quite a number of friends who have actually become family - RAYZA SOUNDZ ENTERTAINMENT (#TheGameJustGotBetter) is the page. Can never regret coming across it because through it I found great entertainment and good friends. Story for another day :-)
Something caught my attention. I don't know if it's just me or does anyone else get caught or rather interested to know someone you come across with the same name as you??? Maybe it's just me. So, I met a lady by the name 'NJOKEEY WAHETI' and I was like, 'Oh! Here comes my namesake'. We kept interacting and talking about all manner of things on the live stream...can never forget the 'Kitanda ya 40 sausand' thing lol!!! We slowly became friends online. I remember this one time - it was August 21, 2020 to be specific when I went to visit my granny and decided to go live on Facebook with her. Had a few friends on the live and was asking if they would like avocados and bananas. WAHETI was one of them and she said she wanted bananas lol! Surprisingly my granny was like 'there is some so you can carry them for her' and was like why not! I carried a whole bunch of bananas for her.
I remember the first time we talked she video called me when I was on a game night with my friends and she had come from a burial and we did catch up a little before I told her that I'd talk to her the following day and inform her when I'd take the bananas to her which had stayed in my balcony for more than a week coz I went to her place on August 30. hehehe! I know I can be a joke! This is when our bond begun. Stayed at her house for 3 days - someone I had never met and never were friends for long. Lemmie just say that the rest is history!!
She is one of those friendly and jovial people you can ever meet. But she can be a pain in the a** too. We have been great friends since then and no one ever accepts the fact that we have known each other for less than a year. It's the bond! Clicked at first instance and never was there too much effort to try and blend in. So msiforce friendships!!! Together we have been to awesome places and together we have made bad decisions too lol!! I mean, it's the good and the bad that counts, right? She has met my other friends, and all have blended in. She is 'life of the party' and anytime she is not there I tend to withdraw from some plans lol! My best moment was when I took her to say hi to my granny and we spent a night at my home. Granny was so happy and since then she always asks for her whenever I talk to her even on phone. Though recently one thing almost made me teary when we were on a road trip and WAHETI had the privilege to play music from her phone and first thing she did is put my granny's voice note saying hi to her and asking about her whereabouts - to be honest this was something I didn't expect she would have. Treasured memories and moments!
She is known by my friends and family even those who haven't met her know there is a WAHETI somewhere and she is close enough. She is someone who can come to my place and stay in bed for 3 days without getting off!! Lol! She is someone who will plan my time for me shamelessly and I never complain. She will harass anyone trying to get over my nerves and she is never sorry for it! I actually get worried when I get in trouble because I know she would fuss even when I'm ok with the situation at hand. She is one of a kind.
But good thing is that we always looking out for each other and would never let anyone of us drown in anything. She will always be part of me, and my prayer is to have our friendship last longer if not forever. I hope we get to always outlook our differences or whatever comes along that would break us.
And I couldn't he any happier spending time with her getting into this year! Here's to creating more great memories! To more holidays! More parties! More love! And everything else good that life got to offer.
I LOVE YOU WAHETI!
